Mausoleum Assembler and Crane Operator
Graniteville, VT

ROCK OF AGES CORPORATION is looking for a hard-working, positive team player to fill our Mausoleum Assembler and Crane Operator position at our Graniteville, VT plant.

Tasks include crane operation, washing and boxing stone. Learning the craft of granite mausoleum assembly, detailed mausoleum parts inspection and washing and crafting of mausoleum and other large granite projects. This position requires being able to lift up to 50lbs and being on your feet all day. Experience in manufacturing is desirable, but not required because WE WILL TRAIN YOU.

The Rock of Ages Visitors Center seeks to add Tour Guides for our upcoming tour season. Our tour guides are storytellers and brand ambassadors who share the story of Barre Gray® granite quarry operations and the artistry of Rock of Ages craftsmen with visitors from throughout North America and beyond.

Rock of Ages has a 100-year history of giving quarry tours, and visitors from all over still come up Quarry Hill to experience a little bit of what goes on in the quarry. Guiding can be a fun & rewarding role that touches on elements of geology, history, engineering, and art. Training is provided. Hours: Monday thru Friday, with the occasional Saturday during fall foliage. We do have some flexibility in scheduling. Tour guides are paid an hourly wage plus tips.

Tour guides give scheduled, guided tours from an observation site overlooking the E.L. Smith quarry (the largest operating quarry of its type in the world), as well as assisting with visitor center operations (opening, closing, cashiering, light cleaning, etc.). A valid driver’s license is required as guides use a company vehicle to access the quarry observation area. Work is both performed outside in the elements and indoors. The main requirement is a positive attitude, enthusiasm, comfort working with people and a desire to share a unique experience with our visitors.

Maintenance Technician

We have an opening for the position of maintenance technician to join our production team at Rock of Ages. Our craftsmen and craftswomen extract, cut and transform stone to create beautiful granite products for our valued customers in the U.S. and abroad.

We are looking to add a member to our Maintenance Team who will contribute to maintaining facility equipment in top-quality condition to ensure the efficient operation of the machinery. Responsible for repairing and maintaining the equipment, this person will perform maintenance diagnoses and repairs, keeping safety practices, attention to detail, responsibility, and reliability as a top priority.

  • Repairs and performs preventative maintenance of equipment and facilities including the diagnosis and repair of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
  • Performs PMs on all production equipment as assigned
  • Performs routine safety inspections of shop equipment
  • Helps maintain an inventory of parts and lubricants
    Maintains a clean and organized working area
  • Follows all industry safety practices, fall protection, lock-out tag-out and NFP70E
  • Performs other routine duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maintenance Tech School Training and or on-the-job training is a plus
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing maintenance position
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
  • Experience with motor controls and PLC trouble shooting is strongly preferred
  • A working knowledge of, and an established reputation in, OSHA compliance matters
  • Professionalism in a collaborative work environment
    Willing to work overtime, when required
  • Fabrication, Welding, Manual Mill, and lathe experience is a plus
  • Experience using maintenance management software a plus

Industrial Controls Technician
Barre, VT

POSITION SUMMARY
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED

  • Support Engineering, Controls and Maintenance teams, and contractors with controls, automation, and communications installations, implementations, and upgrades.
  • Design, institute, and perform system tests to verify proper equipment operation and performance.
  • Perform electrical and controls-related preventative maintenance, calibration, installation, troubleshooting, and repair of Plant equipment such as saws, thermal machines, splitters, handling systems, conveyors, motor control systems, servo and frequency drives, PLC/HMI systems, control cabinets, process power distribution and wiring, HVAC, and ethernet/Wi-Fi communication systems.
  • Maintain current documentation of all electrical and controls systems including device hardware and software.
  • Initiate, manage, and support electrical, controls, and automation projects, jobs, and tasks that improve equipment effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with and assist controls engineers and technicians at other Plants as directed, appropriate, or when business priorities dictate.
  • Assist Industrial Maintenance Technicians, as needed, in troubleshooting and repair of Plant equipment.
  • Program and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controls (PLC) programs and modify software programs for Plant equipment.
  • Review, improve, develop, store, and safeguard machine programs.
    Pursue professional development and training—especially in the areas of electrical technologies and industrial controls (including standards and safety).
  • Review PLC control flow of equipment and monitor uptime & downtime metrics.
  • Participate on cross-functional teams to support business improvement initiatives teams.
  • Utilize business systems to track, manage, and document process and work activity.
  • Analyze process data, generate relevant reports, and make written project proposals.
  • Complies with safety, environmental, and quality requirements established by external and internal regulations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires physical activity for most of the shift including walking, climbing, standing, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting no more than 50 lbs.

This position will be in the machine environment most of the time and can reach high ambient temperatures in some operating conditions.
This position requires occasional long shifts, weekend work, and an on-call requirement.
