Quarry Worker

ROCK OF AGES CORPORATION is looking for hard working, positive team players to fill quarry positions at our Barre & Bethel, VT locations.

This is an outdoor job involving the extraction of granite from our drive-in quarries. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This full-time position performs the duties of a Maintenance Mechanic by maintaining equipment used in the granite quarry process, such as front-end loaders, forklifts, drills, generators, saws and compressors.

Duties include, troubleshooting equipment failures, performing routine safety inspections of shop and equipment, maintaining an inventory of materials, parts and other necessary supplies, prepare and analyze cost from outside vendors, repair and perform preventive maintenance of all mobile equipment, disassembles motors, pumps and components and cleans parts, and cleans tools and working parts.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Education and/or Experience requires, minimum of 4 years’ experience in a manufacturing and/or quarry setting, personnel skills to work with all departments and vendors to reduce downtime and increase output, welding (MIG and Stick) and fabricating, preventative maintenance (PM) and implementing a PM program, and knowledge of OSHA/MSHA compliance matters.

Job Duties: Extracting stone from quarries for building materials. Operating different types of drilling equipment (pneumatic drilling tools, wire saw, jackhammer, sledge hammer, pressure washer, & manlift such as Tamrock 550 Double Drill, Tamrock 550 Lift Drill, Tamrock 600 Slot Drill, Marini Voyager DTH Track Drill, Dazzini DTH Track Drill, Bennetti DTH, Tamrock Zoom Rail, & Plug Drills) in a quarry & trim yard environment. Drilling deep holes, lift holes, & channel operations in high-pressure conditions. Operating up to 3 to 5 saws simultaneously. Tipping lines (slab of varying sizes) onto the ground with the use of Hydro bags, air bags & loaders equipped with tipping booms. Inspecting ground conditions. Ensuring stone is blocked against movement once on the ground. Laying of dimensional sizes. Drilling & breaking lines.  Installing railings & warning lines utilizing the use of pry-bars to pry stone, & lifting and/or carrying wire rope & chain slings (weighing in excess of 40-pounds). Lifting and/or carrying other miscellaneous equipment & materials in excess of 50-pounds. Assisting equipment operators with setting machinery, installing up to 2” mining pins, & sealing of highwalls. Ensuring the installation of removal of ladder & ladder systems. Observing strict safety regulations.

Minimum Requirements: No education & experience required. All required on-the-job training will be provided to the worker including on-site training to become familiar with the different types of equipment & work processes. Must be able to: Safely operate 25–30-pound pneumatic tools, 50-pound pneumatic drills, 8-pound sledge hammers, & 60-foot manlifts; Work in outdoor environment with extreme weather conditions (cold, hot, rain, etc.), with high noise levels, at times; Work, ascend, & descent ladders up to 200 feet in height; Safely lift and/or carry equipment & materials in excess of 50-pounds.
